‘It: Chapter Two’ SPOILER Review

It has been a long summer with our accidental hiatus! Therefore, let’s waste no time and get into our review of It: Chapter Two. As always, I will go through the good, the bad, a few tidbits from the book, and my overall score! The GOOD Opening: Something I’ve mentioned on the podcast, back when the last trailer for this film dropped, was my hope that they would adapt the opening sequence (from the present day) with the gay couple. I know they are two mediums (prose and film) that shouldn’t be compared but, for anyone interested, the book is much scarier and horrific with this scene. I highly recommend. I wanted this scene in the movie because it is one of the moments in the 1200 page novel that communicates the book’s consistent ideas throughout; It is a monster and does not discriminate, and It may  be the literal beast but there is evil in humanity that too creates horrors. Something the movie didn’t touch at ALL was the issue of race and It’s attack …

‘Dark Phoenix’ SPOILER Review

SO, last night I took the chance to go see the LAST installment in the Fox X-Men Franchise, Dark Phoenix. Let’s just get this over with. The Good Opening:  I already had a bad feeling when I didn’t get to see the classic X-Men opening credit sequence with the wonderful theme that started in X2. At the same time, I guess that is primarily a Singer element. Oh well… The opening shows the X-Men heading into space to save some astronauts from an incoming “solar flare.” This sequence was wonderful. I was like, ok! We’re off to a good start! The X-Men together, going into space, using their powers together to save the day. I loved it.  There was even a moment as they were going up where Scott puts his hand on Jean’s shoulder and I’m like, yes. Scott and Jean. Finally. First Jean Encounter: When the X-Men go to confront Jean at her father’s house they have a pretty decent action sequence. I was all for it. Of course, the scene concludes with, the already …

‘His Dark Materials’ Heading to HBO

Directly after last night’s finale to Game of Thrones HBO decided to treat us with the trailer for its upcoming fantasy series, His Dark Materials. Is this a move to make sure subscriptions aren’t cancelled like wildfire? You bet! However, I have to say, despite this suicide-watch move, the new series looks promising! Some of you might remember back in 2007 when a little movie titled The Golden Compass hit theaters. Well, His Dark Materials will be a series based on the best selling novels by Phillip Pullman with season one focusing specifically on The Golden Compass, the first novel of the trilogy. Set in an alternate world, the soul of all humans lives outside of their bodies taking the shapes of different animals known as Daemons. In childhood these daemons can change their shape as much as they please. When a person reaches adulthood the daemon takes one final animal form and remains that way forever. The story follows our protagonist, Lyra Belacqua (Logan bad-ass, Dafne Keene) as she heads to the arctic to …

‘It’ Chapter 2 Teaser Trailer

Ok, So we just got our first look at  It: Chapter 2. I think it was an interesting choice to show that scene with Jessica Chastain for the majority of it. Of course, I’m sure they don’t want to give too much away just yet, but let’s talk about what we did get! The scene with Beverly comes about halfway in the book when the losers club has finally reunited in Derry, Maine to fulfill their promise to stop It once and for all. It is certainly  creepy scene in the book but this trailer already adds layers to it that make it so much more stunning. Th old lady down the hall and the blacked out shot with the thumping of the floor- perfect. This film in particular is exciting because it gets to not only bring us back to the horror of the clown but it will play with nostalgia through the lense of the six, and, should it do the book justice, show us the horrors that pertain to the universal experience of …
