‘WandaVision’ and the Laws of Magic

We are just one week away from the FINALE of the WandaVision limited series over on Disney+. Yes, as of right now, the show focusing on Wanda Maximoff and Vision is said to be a ‘one and done.’ Thought it is worth noting that when it comes to Kevin Feige we should never say never, it’s also good practice to not get our hopes up either. Regardless, there is a ton to discuss from this weeks episode and I wanted to focus on the magical elements that have been introduced. Before this episode confirmed the presence of magic in Westfield the only presence of real magic in the MCU was in 2016’s Doctor Strange. Episode eight showed us the history of Agatha Harkniss and IMPORTANT retcons(?) to Wanda Maximoff. The new details have built her up not only as one of the most powerful characters in the MCU but one of the most exciting to follow. 1: It was Wanda all along: Age of Ultron provided the background information to the Maximoff twins; we learned …

‘Light of the Jedi’;Worthy Start for a New Era of Star Wars

Star Wars fans have long been awaiting the launch of the new High Republic materials launching for 2021. The first of the list, Light of the Jedi, hit its release on January 5 and since then has climbed up the New York Times best seller list. Despite its great performance in stores does the title deliver on its content? Let’s break it down. THE BAD I usually like to start reviews by kicking off with the positive. However, I only have one real complaint for this title. Therefore, let’s get these minor whines out of the way so we can dig into what makes this book special and what it means for the future. This Room Too Crowded: It’s a little tough to keep up with all these characters! Light of the Jedi is trying to set up a new time period, a new economic and political landscape, a ton of new characters, and a new evil force in the galaxy while delivering its plot. The book does try to embark on too much but …

Evan Peters’ Character on ‘WandaVision’; Who is he Really?

WandaVision continues to escalate week to week with episode five being no exception. As always, this is going to be filled with a ton of spoilers so, if you haven’t seen the latest episode, you have been warned! A TON went down this week but the biggest reveal would have to be those final seconds where Evan Peters (Pietro from the Fox X-Men movies) steps through the door and Wanda receives him as her brother. In other words, as Darcy so easily put it, Pietro has been recast! Or has he? Sorry folks, but as much as Twitter has been aflame with the idea that this is the first hint of the anticipated multiverse in the MCU there is no doubt it is not the situation. A: The Rules of Wanda’s Powers: Thanks to Monica and team we have been given a better idea as to how Wanda’s reality warping powers seem to operate in the MCU. Monica’s 70’s attire and the truth of Vision’s corpse serve as our best examples; Wanda cannot create anything …

‘Yu Yu Hakusho’ Live Action Adaptation Coming to Netflix; That’s Fine

Disclaimer, as I write this I am listening to the OP song, Smile Bomb; it just felt correct. As many anime fans have heard, Netflix has announced their intention to create a live action series based on the anime classic, Yu Yu Hakusho. Now, personally, this is one of my FAVORITE animes from back in the day. The gritty anime style of the early 90’s, the addicting sound effects, adult jokes, use of color, incredible action sequences, and the show’s dedication to its characters. For those that have never heard of it, the show (initially) is about a teenage boy, Yusuke Urameshi, a lover of fighting who dies saving a little girl from getting hit by a car. He floats in our world accompanied by Botan (called the Grim Reapear in the english dub), as he seeks to earn his second chance at life. From there he makes a squad(?) of other spirit powered badasses as they undergo new adventures and battles. It’s fantastic. Now, I can understand why devoted fans of the original have …

‘Lando’ Likely the Subtle ‘Solo’ Sequel?

We are so far away from getting new Star Wars content, but I am still covering as much as I can about these new show announcements. I have expressed my hope that the upcoming limited series, Lando, will be smart enough to use both Donald Glover and Billy Dee Williams’ Calrissian. A story that uses the nonlinear format (a technique used in other popular shows such as Lost, Orange is the New Black, How to Get Away with Murder, and so many others) would be a real treat to see used in the Star Wars canon. Now, out of all the shows announced Lando is the only one that has the chance to take place (even if partially) in the post-sequel trilogy timeframe. Some might want to fight on this but I believe that if they choose to NOT include Billy Dee Williams in the project or use him only in a narrator position (something like The Wonder Years) then I think the sequel trilogy should brace for a Death Star shot in the face. …

Could Legends Icon Darth Revan Make His Way to ‘The Acolyte’

Favreau and Filoni by this point can certainly be considered the godfathers of a galaxy far far away. Kicking off last year with a fairly mysterious series (which I admit I was indifferent too) they have been able to pull-off the same magic that Ironman did in 2008; launch a phenomenon. Now, with the Star Wars expanded universe continuing to go deeper with upcoming shows for Disney+ it’s safe to wonder if lesser known fan favorites could be up for play in the hands of these geniuses. One character in particular that has me stroking my imaginary beard would be Legends character Darth Revan… Now, off the bat, According to his video game appearances, this character would have lived thousands of years before the events of the prequel trilogy rather than just some hundreds as The Acolyte will be set in. However, despite the character’s popularity we have to acknowledge that his video game stories are technically not canon in the Star Wars mythos. Episode IX: Rise of Skywalker didn’t give anything to the contrary, …

‘The Mandalorian’ Season 2 Finale Breakdown; What’s Happening Next Year!?

WHAT a season finale to The Mandalorian. There is so much to unpack from this! Therefore wasting no time- let’s break it down. Grogu: After sixteen chapters it would appear that our time with the baby Yoda has come to a close. Luke Skywalker (we’ll get to him in a moment) was the jedi to answer Grogu’s call. He single handedly destroys the dark troopers and takes the young one to be trained as a Jedi. Is this goodbye? Well, Yoda lived over 900 years. By the events of The Force Awakens it seems that either Grogu is long gone from Luke’s attempts to revive the Order or he was murdered by Kylo and the Knights of Ren. With the insane popularity surrounding him and the confirmation of four (?) Star Wars series around this time period, I am in high doubts that this is the last we’ll see of our little green friend. I’m sure within the chunk of shows coming in the near future he will be very much alive and well. I …

Twenty-Three Upcoming MCU Projects- No Latino Leads; A Perfect IP to Change That

Some will roll their eyes, but as a first generation latino here in the United States I am still hoping for the superhero representation I didn’t get as a kid! By now, with the arrival of heroes such as Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Miles Morales I think we understand the importance of seeing ourselves reflected on the screen. To be clear, I am well aware that Miles Morales embodies a Puerto Rican experience but that is just ONE latino experience. We are multiple countries with multiple cultures, different nuances, contradictions, histories, and certainly a variety of personalities. One character alone can not encompass nor satisfy the desire for latino representation which is why more is needed. As we received amazing news today about all the upcoming projects I couldn’t help but notice that out of the TWENTY-THREE there wasn’t one with a latino lead. SO I got to brainstorming for a perfect MCU project; The Power Pack Fairly Unknown: Trolls like to complain when gender bending or race bending characters occurs. In …

Disney Confirms Marvel Multiverse Trilogy

Alright, let’s dive into some Marvel content! On the Marvel side of Disney Investor Day there were some repetitive elements but also some surprises. Though Spider-Man 3, Doctor Strange 2, and the upcoming WandaVision were all projects we knew were underway, I was delightfully surprised to learn that all three are actually apart of one large story; Alright! Yes, WandaVision will serve as the kick-off that will continue with next year’s Spider-Man sequel; a sequel that every day is growing larger with more multiverse characters. With those character confirmations, whatever the events of the new Disney+ series, it’s clear that the end results will have Wanda lose control and unleash the multiverse upon the MCU. Something very clearly omitted from today’s event was any announcement regarding the X-Men (even in animated format!). We know that Feige has let us know such a film/series shouldn’t be expected until phase five which might explain the omission. For now, we will just have to enjoy this multiverse ride which will certainly play a key role in bringing together …

‘Lando’ Series Heading to Disney+; Questions Regarding the (Post Sequels?) Show

I admit, at first, I wasn’t that excited for this announcement. Yes, Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian back in The Empire Strikes Back (my favorite original Star Wars movie) seduced me in SO many ways. Yet, out of the pile of new content I found it lackluster; until… Back in 2018 with the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story we received another infamous “Dumbledore cop-out”; The writer of the film mentioned that Lando Calrissian was in-fact written to be pansexual. However, we shouldn’t have expected to see this depicted in the film… Then why the f***…? Anywho! With this new show the rainbow elephant in the room is, “will they have the stones to depict the character in this light? Or will Jonathan Kasdan’s words be brushed under the rug?” Recently, Disney+ released an animated short focused around a man coming out to his family. This is the first Disney project of any kind that I have seen the “house of mouse” directly address subjects around the LGBTQ+ community. My hope is that …
