Henry Cavill Will Return as the Man of Steel; Where We Can Expect His Return

It was no secret that Henry Cavill has had an odd relationship with Warner studios and the infamous Snyder Cut; He refused to appear for the cameo in Shazam and was the only cast member to not promote #ReleasetheSnyderCut back in November (which is the reason we’re getting it). Despite the sketchiness there is word that Cavill is inches away from finalizing a deal to keep the Superman role. This information comes about a week after getting official news of the Snyder Cut’s HBOMax release. So, does this mean we are set for Man of Steel 2? Not so fast. A: Justice League: At this time we know that the Snyder Cut of Justice League will be dropping on HBOMax some time in 2021. There is no doubt that the main cast will be back for further scene work and this will be a good opportunity to boost Cavill’s platform in the role. Of course, there is the risk that this ends up being another Batman v Superman but we’ll cross that bridge when we …

Snyder Cut on the Way; Future of the DCEU

Well I’ll be damned. The fans have done it! Three years after the theatrical release of Justice League it has been officially confirmed that the Snyder Cut WILL release on HBOMax in 2021. Besides the pleasure of getting to see the director’s original vision I’m filled with questions about the future; what does this mean for the DCEU? 1: Is the DCEU revived?: We remember that not too long ago, at San Diego Comic Con, the DCEU was officially replaced by the’ Worlds of DC.’ This was the official ending of the shared universe in order to approach more singular story experiences. Hm. Alright. This was primarily done because of the perceived failure of Zack Snyder’s creation. The thing is despite the enthusiasm for the Synder Cut over the last few years those mixed feelings still ring true; an overwhelming amount of audience goers didn’t vibe with his vision. Though what has changed over the course of this movement is the rise of streaming services. The launch of HBOMax and the translation of what is perceived …

‘Birds of Prey’ SPOILER Review

After letting dust collect on this site for weeks I am finally back! This past Friday we had the release of DC’s latest installment in their cinematic universe (is it still a universe?), Birds of Prey. Though this movie opened at number one this weekend it did so with a lower then expected box office of $33.3 Million. Yikes. Despite low turnout was it any good? Let’s get into the good and the bad. THE GOOD Black Canary: This has been brought up in just about every review I’ve encountered so far; Jurnee Smollett-Bell is excellent in this role. It should be mentioned that it is a small one, more on that below, but what she did get to do with it was phenomenal. I would have liked to see her use the canary cry more than once though. I understand they wanted to build up to that single use to give it more weight in the scene, but come on. This is Black Canary. Yes, she’s a character that doesn’t need her power to …

‘Birds of Prey’ FINAL Trailer; Alright, I Think I Get It

It is just a good week for comic movie trailers! We have our final preview of next month’s Birds of Prey. Yes, the one without Oracle (I’m still not over it)! Has the trailer changed my feelings? Let’s get into it! More of the Birds: Right off the bat I would like to express my gratitude that the trailer made the effort to showcase the ensemble better than the original trailer did. I understand that no matter what this is GOING to be the Harley Quinn show. However, it isn’t much to ask that the film at least do right by its supporting characters and make sure they get their fare share of screen time.  This trailer showed that Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) will have her powers! Will there be the iconic leather jacket and fishnets? Apparently not, but what can we say? Pick your battles. It looks like Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) will get some decent action scenes; as well as many of the other members to the ensemble. Overall, though these characters seem to …

Jharrel Jerome Wins Emmy for”When They See Us”; Will He Be Our Mister Miracle?

Just some minutes ago we had the pleasure of seeing Jharrel Jerome accept his first Emmy for his work in When They See Us. Now, not just any Emmy, but the Emmy for Best Lead Actor! HUGE moment for this 21-year-old talent from the Bronx. Now, my nerd brain goes immediately to thoughts on Ava DuVernay’s next project, The New Gods.  DuVernay herself has said that she often brings talent from previous projects into the next, and I have a feeling that Jharrel’s win tonight could easily make him a front-runner for the DC property cast.  To play who exactly? Why, Mister Miracle of course! Playing the natural born son of High Father of the planet New Genesis, Mister Miracle was offered up in a trade in order to secure peace with the rival planet, Apokalips. That’s right, ya’ll! Darkseid is the adoptive father of this character! There is a kindness to Jerome’s face and very much to how he carries himself. Mister Miracle, despite growing up in a torturous environment, never surrendered his optimist …

Could ‘Suicide Squad’ Become DCEU’s ‘Fast and Furious’ Franchise?

With nine films under its belt (if you include the recently successful Hobbs & Shaw), there’s no doubting that the Fast and Furious franchise continues to be a box office powerhouse eighteen years since its beginning. Certainly a franchise that has had it’s growing pains but, like any great film engine, it found its formula and has continued to pop out winner after winner. Are these films that spark conversation, address deep rooted social issues, and provide allegories of our troubled reality? F*** no! They are mindless, hysterical, explosive, and classic popcorn fun! Yes, in the age of harsh realism and dark films, cheesy explosion blockbusters are still a great time at the movies. Something I feel has added to the success of the Fast and Furious franchise aside from its ridiculous stunts (cars out of airplanes?!) has been the richness of the cast’s diversity. No tokens! Just all shades of people coming together for an action-packed adventure. As James Gunn posted the official cast of his upcoming Suicide Squad I feel I must wonder- Could Suicide …

‘The Joker’ Final Trailer: I Have No Idea What It’s About, but I Relate??

Yesterday we were treated to the second and FINAL trailer for Todd Phillips’ upcoming The Joker.  As said before, on the podcast and on this very blog, I have been very skeptical about this movie; how do you have Joker without his better half?! Well, the final trailer, much like the first, does very little to tell us what the plot is going to be. Yet, I found myself (on a strictly emotional level) connecting with what I was seeing. I know the script has leaked online, but I am trying to be a good fan and keep my distance. For now, I am going off of the suspicion that the story revolves around the thesis of, “we are all just one bad day away from losing our minds.” Of course, we can tell Phoenix’s Joker has had more than just a bad day, but isn’t that so many of us? A part of me wishes that the film weren’t set in the 70’s because it appears as if there is so much here that …

‘The New Gods’ vs ‘The Eternals’

Don’t know who The Eternals are? Not to worry, neither do most comic fans! I would consider myself a “committed-casual” comic reader and, in reality, had very little information about the property before the film was announced. Now, despite the comic not being a big hitter amongst readers, it certainly is involved in some weird S*** these days. How so? Let’s take a look! 1: Who Are The Eternals: First and foremost, let’s clarify, in an abridged version, just who the Eternals are! They are an immortal (pretty self-explanatory) group of humans that were created in the early stages of mankind’s development by beings known as the Celestials. You might recall a little cameo of the Celestials in the first Guardians of the Galaxy, and you may also recall that Peter Quill is in fact HALF Celestial! This small branch of humanity, unlike inhumans and mutants, tend to possess a uniform power-set though exceptions have been seen. Eternals have super-strength, flight, forcefield abilities, telepathy, illusion casting,  and teleportation. All these powers come from their ability to …
