Snyder Cut Updates; Jared Leto Returns and the Future of the Snyderverse

We have yet to receive an offical release date for Zach Snyder’s ultimate version of Justice League for HBOMax in 2021. Yet, as the announcements continue to hit the internet, my suspicions are leaning towards a Q2 release at the earliest. Back in May it seemed this thing would be a three-hour movie at best with some additional investment to complete post-production work; man is that NOT how this thing is shaping up! So what is confirmed, what’s pending, what’s rumored, and what’s not happening(for now)? Let’s talk about it! Jared Leto Returning: It was announced today that Jared Leto would indeed be reprising his role for the Snyder Cut! To what capacity would he be involved in the four-part miniseries is not confirmed, however, I think it’s safe to assume it won’t be for anything larger than a cameo appearance/one-and-done action sequence. Leto joining the project, just as reshoots have started up, nearly confirms what we’re really looking at here with this project; this isn’t a “pick up where they left off and release …

Alan Moore Still Hates Comics; What Are Ya Gonna Do?

Alan Moore, the man who created Watchmen, V for Vendetta, The Killing Joke, and a truly superb run of Swamp Thing did a recent interview with Deadline where he took the steamiest dump on comics and comic book movies. I am a huge comic fan, but even I have to admit this bloody genius made some pretty interesting arguments and ones worth diving into! “They have blighted cinema, and also blighted culture to a degree” Moore opens with addressing how he hasn’t seen a single comic book movie since the release of the first Tim Burton Batman film back in 1989. He mentions how comicbooks themselves are no longer independent of their film interpretations and they’ve completely ruined the industry. Alright, I don’t disagree totally about the state of film in general. There’s no doubt that comic book movies seem to have completely taken over the medium- when it comes to movie theaters. With raising ticket prices, the addition of streaming, and easy access to media on the internet, the thought of investing in a …

‘Green Lantern’ Series Roster Complete; Where Is Everyone?!

Moments ago we received word on who would be joing the Green Lantern series set to launch on HBOMax. Let’s take a look at what we got! Alan Scott: The DC Universe original series Stargirl introduced the Justice Society of America but has focused on a new generation of the team rather than the OG’s. With this being the case, I had my hunch that Alan Scott could be set to appear on the new series and this seems to be correct! For those that don’t know- Alan Scott was the original Green Lantern from the golden age of comics. Not only was his uniform completely different but the idea of the Green Lantern was something of its own as well; no gaurdians, no space travel, no intergalatic policing… It was just one man with a ring constructed from a meteor and the range of his abilities were unique; rather than green light it was more of like a green fire? Also, not as many constructs! Not only will he be a lead on the …

‘Black Adam’ Finds Its Hawkman in Aldis Hodge; Origins of the Golden Age Hero

With Black Adam set to go into production early next year it can only be expected that we would slowly get casting announcements for the Justice Society of America members mentioned at DC Fandome. Today we have confirmation that Hawkman will be played by Aldis Hodge. I have not had the chance to see this actor in anything yet, however, I am aware he stars in Regina King’s One Night in Miami which performed very well at the Venice Film Festival; so certainly bodes well for him not just in the DCEU but in Hollywood in general. I’m sure many fans on Twitter will be clenching their fists like Arthur at this news, but I’m overjoyed! I know Hodge was also in the breakout success The Invisible Man so I may need to check that out and hopefully get a bit more familiar with our new Hawkman! The Justice Society will be starring alongside Dwayne ‘the Rock’ Johnson in Black Adam but we don’t know much else other than this; will this film be a …

Zack Snyder’s ‘Justice League’ Green Lantern Should Be John Stewart

There are still some years from now and the day that Ezra Miller’s Flash hits the reboot button on the DC Extended Universe. Such a reboot will inevitably see Snyder’s Green Lantern and Darkseid potentially merge with, or be cancelled out by, Ava Duvernay’s interpretation and the Green Lantern series coming to HBOMax. I am over the moon excited to know that Green Lantern is officially joining the team for the Snyder Cut (it isn’t JL without a Lantern, I’m sorry) and won’t just make a brief cameo at the end of the movie as originally thought. However, rumors have been leaning towards Hal Jordan joining the rest of the cast; I don’t think this is the way to go. John Stewart is your man and here’s why; 1: Current Lantern in the Book: I believe that if you’re trying to figure out where the studio might be headed character-wise then the comics is a great place to start collecting hints. Since 2018, when Scott Snyder took over Justice League and relaunched the title with …

Henry Cavill Will Return as the Man of Steel; Where We Can Expect His Return

It was no secret that Henry Cavill has had an odd relationship with Warner studios and the infamous Snyder Cut; He refused to appear for the cameo in Shazam and was the only cast member to not promote #ReleasetheSnyderCut back in November (which is the reason we’re getting it). Despite the sketchiness there is word that Cavill is inches away from finalizing a deal to keep the Superman role. This information comes about a week after getting official news of the Snyder Cut’s HBOMax release. So, does this mean we are set for Man of Steel 2? Not so fast. A: Justice League: At this time we know that the Snyder Cut of Justice League will be dropping on HBOMax some time in 2021. There is no doubt that the main cast will be back for further scene work and this will be a good opportunity to boost Cavill’s platform in the role. Of course, there is the risk that this ends up being another Batman v Superman but we’ll cross that bridge when we …

Snyder Cut on the Way; Future of the DCEU

Well I’ll be damned. The fans have done it! Three years after the theatrical release of Justice League it has been officially confirmed that the Snyder Cut WILL release on HBOMax in 2021. Besides the pleasure of getting to see the director’s original vision I’m filled with questions about the future; what does this mean for the DCEU? 1: Is the DCEU revived?: We remember that not too long ago, at San Diego Comic Con, the DCEU was officially replaced by the’ Worlds of DC.’ This was the official ending of the shared universe in order to approach more singular story experiences. Hm. Alright. This was primarily done because of the perceived failure of Zack Snyder’s creation. The thing is despite the enthusiasm for the Synder Cut over the last few years those mixed feelings still ring true; an overwhelming amount of audience goers didn’t vibe with his vision. Though what has changed over the course of this movement is the rise of streaming services. The launch of HBOMax and the translation of what is perceived …

‘Birds of Prey’ SPOILER Review

After letting dust collect on this site for weeks I am finally back! This past Friday we had the release of DC’s latest installment in their cinematic universe (is it still a universe?), Birds of Prey. Though this movie opened at number one this weekend it did so with a lower then expected box office of $33.3 Million. Yikes. Despite low turnout was it any good? Let’s get into the good and the bad. THE GOOD Black Canary: This has been brought up in just about every review I’ve encountered so far; Jurnee Smollett-Bell is excellent in this role. It should be mentioned that it is a small one, more on that below, but what she did get to do with it was phenomenal. I would have liked to see her use the canary cry more than once though. I understand they wanted to build up to that single use to give it more weight in the scene, but come on. This is Black Canary. Yes, she’s a character that doesn’t need her power to …

‘Birds of Prey’ FINAL Trailer; Alright, I Think I Get It

It is just a good week for comic movie trailers! We have our final preview of next month’s Birds of Prey. Yes, the one without Oracle (I’m still not over it)! Has the trailer changed my feelings? Let’s get into it! More of the Birds: Right off the bat I would like to express my gratitude that the trailer made the effort to showcase the ensemble better than the original trailer did. I understand that no matter what this is GOING to be the Harley Quinn show. However, it isn’t much to ask that the film at least do right by its supporting characters and make sure they get their fare share of screen time.  This trailer showed that Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell) will have her powers! Will there be the iconic leather jacket and fishnets? Apparently not, but what can we say? Pick your battles. It looks like Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) will get some decent action scenes; as well as many of the other members to the ensemble. Overall, though these characters seem to …
