Alan Moore F****** Hates HBO’s ‘Watchmen’: I’m Here For It

Oh what a time to be a Watchmen fan. I have seen the released trailer, and though I’m a HUGE fan of the graphic novel (a book I suggest everyone, and I mean EVERYONE read) I am equally intrigued and mesmerized be its creator, Alan Moore. Not familiar with the grumpy genius? Well, in the comic world he is known for his creations such as Batman’s The Killing Joke, his run on Swamp Thing, which brought the character to critical acclaim, the mind-blowing V for Vendetta, and of course the unmatched Watchmen.   Now, when I say this man is grumpy I am putting it VERY nicely. Having known about the creator for some time I can tell you that Alan Moore HATES any and all adaptations of his work. He is not for it AT. ALL. This man has spoken some real S*** when it has come to live-action versions of his creations or even taking his characters and recycling them with new writers/artists. Can we understand the anger? After all, imagine creating a piece of …

‘Young Justice’ and the Mystery of the Token Gay Character

Young Justice has returned for the second half of its third season over on DC Universe. While I’m enjoying the plot unfold and getting to see more familiar faces for the DC world make their series debut, I am still caught up on trying to figure out just WHO the show-runners were referring to when they said, “gay characters have always been present on the team.” I blogged about this during the first half of the season. Though I haven’t posted reviews for the latest episodes, they did provide more information for who could and couldn’t be ruled out. So, let’s take it from the top people! Team roll call! Just like last time, since Weisman said the character(s) have been present since the end of season two, we will omit the mention of any outsiders or others brought on since the beginning of the current season. S1 characters Nightwing- No. He is very much with Barbara Gordon. Superboy- He is engaged to Miss Martian Miss Martian- ditto Kid Flash- Dead and was with Artemis …

‘Young Justice: Outsiders” New Release Schedule

The fan FAVORITE animated series is  set to return this Tuesday, July 2, over on DC Universe. If you liked the release format for the first half of the season- tough luck! The streaming service has decided to go with a different battle plan for the back thirteen. This Tuesday will copy the previous premiere with three episodes (14-16) but after that will switch to one episode per week. This is likely due to the lack of original content hitting the DC streaming service, the cancellation of Swamp Thing, and trying to find ways to keep fans coming back for a longer stretch of time. At the moment we know that there are still a hand full of new shows set to release this year (Stargirl, Harley, and Titans season 2) but will this project get the green light for season four? I hope so! There’s no doubt that the most anticipated series for the streaming service was Young Justice. How often do you hear of not just a series, but an animated one, getting …

LGBT Superheroes

Oh let’s keep the pride going! Today, instead of a movie review, let’s talk about some of the best, and the “are you kidding me?”, of LGBT representation in the superhero genre. Now, for those who love themselves a good comic book movie, you will notice the number of gay representation is virtually zero! However, in the comic world, as  you can see in the image above, the representation is on point. You’ll be surprised to find out many of these characters have actually appeared in movies and television! Yet, as usual, that element of their identity remains in the closet at the Hall of Justice. Let’s take a look at some! Wonder Woman: That’s right. The princess of Themyscira and daugther of Hippolyta isbisexual by canon! Did you know that? Probably not since it’s never been addressed in an animated series, animated film, live-action film, or live-action series! The closest thing we got to this tidbit was in the successful 2017 film where Diana and Steve Trevor lay in a boat and talk about …

‘Swamp Thing’ Cancelled: Uuuuhhh

SO, it has just been reported that DC Universe’s latest installment, Swamp Thing,  has been cancelled after just one episode… talk about a horror situation. Some might recall that weeks ago the episode count for the season was reduced from thirteen to ten with little to no explanation as to why. For damage control, the streaming service decided to drop the first teaser image for the protector of the green; an image that was, in my opinion, pretty damn good! I watched the pilot episode and gave my review. Overall, I thought it had a ton of promise! It leaned in HEAVY to the horror genre and managed to gross the F@#%@ out of me! Is that everyone’s cup of tea? Not at all. It certainly isn’t mine. Yet, I appreciated what the series was trying to do with the property. Horror has been the genre that comic book adaptations hasn’t been able to break into (at least not successfully) and it seemed the series was on its way to pull it off.  What seems …

‘Swamp Thing’ Episode 1 Review

Before we begin I think it wise to give some advice; DO NOT watch this F#$^##%& show if you’re eating ramen or anything soupy. It will completely ruin it forever! That being said… Let’s get into the swamp. Opening:  WHAT an opening scene for DC Universe’s latest original series. Going into this I was wondering if it was going to be more horror, more suspense, or perhaps just gross? Turned out- ALL OF IT. Seeing those three guys on the boat get ripped apart let me know what kind of a series I was  getting myself into. I admit, I’m not a big fan of the gore and torture porn but this is Swamp Thing… I give my respect where it’s due. That F#$&# Scene: Throughout the episode we get to meet our golden-hearted protagonist, Abby Arcane. I am curious if they’ll change her hair to match the comic version, but I digress. I think she’s alright! There was nothing about her in the opening episode that grabbed my attention too intensely. Yeah, I’m curious to know …

Robert Pattinson is Batman

Look, it’s fine. It’s Fine! Did all my God given senses erupt unanimously in a vibration of ‘NO!’? Damn sure did. Then, I let it register and remembered we’ve done this too many F$#^$# times and we got to learn eventually. People were upset when Gal Gadot was cast as Wonder Woman, when Ben Affleck got Batman, and more examples I just can’t recall. The point is, we’re going to be just fine. At the end of the day what really matters is the quality of that script and Matt Reeves vision. In my opinion Ben Affleck wasn’t just a good Batman but he was the BEST Bruce Wayne we have ever gotten.  That didn’t save him though! We never really got to see the full potential of the Batman and that will always suck. Twilight here might be able to take the character and do some good stuff with it. Let’s give him a fair shot. NOW, I’m going to need him to gain at least twenty pounds of muscle and change that hair …

‘Batwoman’ Trailer Discussion

The first trailer for the latest installment in the Arrowverse, Batwoman, just dropped! Let’s talk! Congratulations: First of all, before even getting into the meat of the trailer, I want to give a huge congratulations to the CW and to Ruby Rose. This is a live-action comic book series with a (unapologetic) gay lead. Batwoman’s there, she’s saving her girl, she’s doing hero stuff, and I really never thought I’d see the day. This is a huge step in the right direction so thank you to Greg Berlanti. What’s a Bat Without a Joker?: What I notice out of the gates here is that we are in a VERY Gotham-looking Gotham City! I know, what was I expecting? Uh, complete S$%& to be honest! Yet the shot of the Wayne Enterprise building and those rooftop scenes have me sold. They seem to have created a believable Gotham and I’m loving it. So, a legit Gotham and a bat. All that’s missing is a joke… The pilot will be using Alice, a nemesis to the Batwoman as her …

Why Todd Phillips’ ‘Joker’ Just Might Work

I have been the loudest voice against this movie. I have said time and time again that Warner/DC should be focusing it’s efforts on building up their heroes along with villains, set in a modern setting where crossovers can happen, and that creating a Joker movie without Batman would be against the very identity of the character. After seeing the trailer for the film last week I have to say-I may have to eat my words. The Joker himself has said it himself, he exists because of the Batman. He is completed because of the Batman. If there were no Batman it would be no fun to do the things he does. They are both products of madness. They are both products of a corrupt and fucked up world. Where one chose to do evil the other chose to defend good. They cancel each other out. Heath Ledger’s Joker said it at the end of the Nolan film- Batman will never kill the Joker because that’s a line he cannot cross and the Joker will …

‘Swamp Thing’ Teaser Drops: What is Going On?

Only a day after production on DC Universe’s upcoming live-action series Swamp Thing was abruptly stopped, a teaser trailer was dropped on the internet! Is this damage control? You bet it is! Either way, we have our first look at the protector of the green as he emerges from the murky swamp. DC Universe seems to once again be saying, “F#$^@ the kids!” This dude looks SCARY. At the very least he looks like a grade-A monster from Are You Afraid of the Dark.  Swamp Thing is certainly a lesser known DC property. I would say he was brought to the height of his potential during the 1980’s comic run by the brilliant Alan Moore. I would assume based on this teaser that the series is going to lean a bit more into the horror elements. Fine by me! However, it seems the long running theme of the streaming service is to not create any original content for children! Titans was heavy on the gore, Doom Patrol drops F-bombs left and right, and Young Justice …
