Snyder Cut Updates; Jared Leto Returns and the Future of the Snyderverse

We have yet to receive an offical release date for Zach Snyder’s ultimate version of Justice League for HBOMax in 2021. Yet, as the announcements continue to hit the internet, my suspicions are leaning towards a Q2 release at the earliest. Back in May it seemed this thing would be a three-hour movie at best with some additional investment to complete post-production work; man is that NOT how this thing is shaping up! So what is confirmed, what’s pending, what’s rumored, and what’s not happening(for now)? Let’s talk about it! Jared Leto Returning: It was announced today that Jared Leto would indeed be reprising his role for the Snyder Cut! To what capacity would he be involved in the four-part miniseries is not confirmed, however, I think it’s safe to assume it won’t be for anything larger than a cameo appearance/one-and-done action sequence. Leto joining the project, just as reshoots have started up, nearly confirms what we’re really looking at here with this project; this isn’t a “pick up where they left off and release …

Alan Moore Still Hates Comics; What Are Ya Gonna Do?

Alan Moore, the man who created Watchmen, V for Vendetta, The Killing Joke, and a truly superb run of Swamp Thing did a recent interview with Deadline where he took the steamiest dump on comics and comic book movies. I am a huge comic fan, but even I have to admit this bloody genius made some pretty interesting arguments and ones worth diving into! “They have blighted cinema, and also blighted culture to a degree” Moore opens with addressing how he hasn’t seen a single comic book movie since the release of the first Tim Burton Batman film back in 1989. He mentions how comicbooks themselves are no longer independent of their film interpretations and they’ve completely ruined the industry. Alright, I don’t disagree totally about the state of film in general. There’s no doubt that comic book movies seem to have completely taken over the medium- when it comes to movie theaters. With raising ticket prices, the addition of streaming, and easy access to media on the internet, the thought of investing in a …

‘Justice League’ Getting $70 Million in Additional Photography; What’s It All For?

Earlier this year came the announcement that Zack Snyder’s Justice League would get its demanded debut exclusivey on HBOMax. The announcement came with the details that there would be a $20 million investment in order to finish post-production on the “already completed” principal photography. As of yesterday it seems things have changed! The Snyder Cut is now set to receive $70 million that includes a week of reshoots with the main cast… Let’s break this down. 1:The Issue: Look, let’s just address the elephant in the room; the studio did not like what Snyder originally created. They were not on board for Batman v Superman, the film had mixed responses from fans, and overwhelming negative reviews from critics. (To be fair, the theatrical cut of BvS was an absolute nightmare. The “ultimate edition” is not a bonus version of that film; it IS the film. The theatrical cut missed so much of the meat to that story that it ended up not making any sense when you saw it in theaters. I do think the …

Zack Snyder’s ‘Justice League’ Trailer Breakdown; Clearly a Different Movie

A highly anticpated piece to yesterday’s DC Fandome was the Snyder Cut panel. We knew beforehand that not only would the director be addressing important elements of the project (such as confirming it will be cut into four episodes releasing weekly) but that we would also be getting our first trailer. Let’s break it down. 1.Darkseid: Snyder wastes no time with this thing! Right out of the gates we get our first shot, clear as crystal, of Snyder’s Darkseid; ruler of the planet Apokolips. Though he is not the principal villain of the movie it was rumored for ages that the iconic character was always set to appear in the project to some capacity. Will he only be featured in flashbacks, will he make small appearences throughout, or is Snyder hoping to add more sequences with the character? Snyder’s cut of the film will not just be a complete telling of what he originally envisioned but will also be the “audition” with audiences to potentially greenlight the second Justice League film he was originally slated to …

‘The Batman’ Trailer; TAS Feels and Joker Crossover?

DC Fandome was full of so much content! I will do my best to address everything that was revealed, but I thought the best place to start would be with the teaser for Matt Reeves’  The Batman. 1992 Animated Series Vibes: From set photos we knew that the film was being shot on location in Liverpool; a city with beautiful gothic architecture. Tonight Reeves revealed that the Gotham he is creating will have the beauty and unique feel of Liverpool while alos utilizing CG to expand on the Gotham he is creating. Seeing Gordon walk into that crime scene, hearing ‘Something in the Way’ by Nirvana, a 1991 track, and taking in the aesthetic of the trailer made me feel that the film is touching on the elements that made the animated series so visually special. I’m very much on board! Joker Crossover?: After watching The Joker I suspected that there could be room for that version of the character, portrayed in the late 70’s, to crossover with Matt Reeves’ version of Batman. Though there have …

Matt Reeves’ ‘The Batman’ Delayed- But You Can Enjoy the Story Now

It seems every day we are learning of more anticipated projects being pushed back due to COVID-19. New to the list is Matt Reeves’ The Batman which has now been set for October 2021. Ha. F*** me. Along with the announcement came the word from the films creative camp that the October shift almost “suits the mood” of the movie… Alright. Enough bulls***. This thing is CLEARLY going to adapt Jeph Loeb’s iconic, The Long Halloween. What is that you ask? Only one of THE greatest Batman stories ever written! Yes, we are going to have to wait a bit longer to see the film, but while you’re locked inside you can experience the story right now! Here are some clues that we’ve received so far of the film’s likelihood being an adaptation of the tale as well as some elements that make it so fantastic. 1: The Art of Tim Sale: I can be a bit of a diva when it comes to my comics. I know there are many stories that are worshiped in …

Episode 38 – Poor Jared

The episode we’ve been waiting months for is finally here! Welcome back to the couch folks where we’re chillin, watching some TV as per usual. In today’s episode we start by discussing the recently launched All Elite Wrestling weekly show @ 0:03:30 and what it means for the WWE. We then spend what feels like forever discussing Todd Phillips ‘JOKER’ @ 0:12:00 which came out last week and has brought up many discussion topics. Come join us for that and much more!

Does Todd Phillips’ ‘JOKER’ Owe Audiences a Sequel?

Though Todd Phillips has gone on record to say that his JOKER is a complete stand-alone/one-and-done film, fans might find it difficult to accept considering the insane success the movie has had at the weekend box office. The film has officially broken October box office records (dethroning last years Venom) with $93.5 million domestically and $234 million worldwide. WOW. Who said a comic book movie has to be colorful to be successful…? Now, is there enough there to build on? Oh YES. Perfect Foundation for Gotham: I understand the end of the movie is meant to create uncertainty over what in the movie was real and what was lies created by the demented mind of Arthur Fleck. We get confirmation that he made up his relationship with Sophie (that was obvious from the beginning), but his session at the end of the film makes one wonder if he was trying to insert himself into the birth of Batman (yet that would insinuate that he knows who Batman is, and we know he doesn’t nor cares to know) …

Shortlist for Catwoman Revealed

This morning I was pumped to find on Twitter that the the shortlist for the casting of Catwoman in the upcoming Batman film has been released! Was this an accident? Nah, bitch. This was likely released on purpose for the studio to gain an idea of what direction fans are leaning in order to help (but not control) their decision. I want to go down the list of each beautiful black actress (So happy they’re going to give us some Eartha Kitt vibes) and see which I think have the strongest chances. Tessa Thompson: Out of the gates I have to say I don’t think she’s a real contender for the role. Yes, she’s stunning, yes she gives Eartha Kitt vibes to the T, but I just don’t see her opposite Robert Pattinson in this movie. I know some might think her staple in the MCU makes her a strong contender, but I would hope that Warner Bros. would go with a lesser known actress to really make a debut as Catwoman. Do I think she’ll …
