Four Elements the ‘Cowboy Bebop’ Netflix Series Should Include From Original

Netflix has been working on their live-action adaptation of one of the most iconic anime’s of all time; Cowboy Bebop. Though no trailer, release date, or set pictures have hit the internet yet we know that production on the ten episode mini-series is well underway with a pretty exciting cast. What I want to touch on is what I feel are musts for the anticipated(?) series from the original. (SPOILERS) 1: Aesthetic: Right off the bat we have to talk about the look and feel of the futuristic Solar System. The show which released back in 1998 brought us visuals with that granular style common in old anime’s which I love. The live-action version of course will not be able to recreate the use of light and color in the same sense, but I hope it will immitate the set designs of these off-world cities and technology. The mini-series will be releasing more than two decades since the original but I feel that so much of it doesn’t need “updating.” The future that Shinichirō Watanabe …

17 Waverly Podcast – Comic Couch – Ep 7

We are back for another episode of Comic Couch! Though we had a different idea for this week’s episode, a certain Disney Investor Day went down and we just have to talk about it. Join us for a special one hour episode as we break down announcements from Marvel and Lucas Film; The multiverse trilogy, new Disney+ series announcements, the growing Star Wars Universe, and what these new projects could mean for the future.

17 Waverly Podcast – Comic Couch – Ep 6

Welcome back to the Comic Couch! This week we’re diving into our review of the Mandalorian Chapter 13: The Jedi. Join us on the couch as we break down Rosario Dawson’s debut as Ahsoka Tano, lightsaber lore, and discuss what might be our favorite episode of the season so far. We also wanted to make sure we gave our two-cents on the reveal of Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop, and the rumored John Boyega DCEU talks; Jason Todd?

Twenty-Three Upcoming MCU Projects- No Latino Leads; A Perfect IP to Change That

Some will roll their eyes, but as a first generation latino here in the United States I am still hoping for the superhero representation I didn’t get as a kid! By now, with the arrival of heroes such as Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Miles Morales I think we understand the importance of seeing ourselves reflected on the screen. To be clear, I am well aware that Miles Morales embodies a Puerto Rican experience but that is just ONE latino experience. We are multiple countries with multiple cultures, different nuances, contradictions, histories, and certainly a variety of personalities. One character alone can not encompass nor satisfy the desire for latino representation which is why more is needed. As we received amazing news today about all the upcoming projects I couldn’t help but notice that out of the TWENTY-THREE there wasn’t one with a latino lead. SO I got to brainstorming for a perfect MCU project; The Power Pack Fairly Unknown: Trolls like to complain when gender bending or race bending characters occurs. In …

Disney Confirms Marvel Multiverse Trilogy

Alright, let’s dive into some Marvel content! On the Marvel side of Disney Investor Day there were some repetitive elements but also some surprises. Though Spider-Man 3, Doctor Strange 2, and the upcoming WandaVision were all projects we knew were underway, I was delightfully surprised to learn that all three are actually apart of one large story; Alright! Yes, WandaVision will serve as the kick-off that will continue with next year’s Spider-Man sequel; a sequel that every day is growing larger with more multiverse characters. With those character confirmations, whatever the events of the new Disney+ series, it’s clear that the end results will have Wanda lose control and unleash the multiverse upon the MCU. Something very clearly omitted from today’s event was any announcement regarding the X-Men (even in animated format!). We know that Feige has let us know such a film/series shouldn’t be expected until phase five which might explain the omission. For now, we will just have to enjoy this multiverse ride which will certainly play a key role in bringing together …

‘Lando’ Series Heading to Disney+; Questions Regarding the (Post Sequels?) Show

I admit, at first, I wasn’t that excited for this announcement. Yes, Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian back in The Empire Strikes Back (my favorite original Star Wars movie) seduced me in SO many ways. Yet, out of the pile of new content I found it lackluster; until… Back in 2018 with the release of Solo: A Star Wars Story we received another infamous “Dumbledore cop-out”; The writer of the film mentioned that Lando Calrissian was in-fact written to be pansexual. However, we shouldn’t have expected to see this depicted in the film… Then why the f***…? Anywho! With this new show the rainbow elephant in the room is, “will they have the stones to depict the character in this light? Or will Jonathan Kasdan’s words be brushed under the rug?” Recently, Disney+ released an animated short focused around a man coming out to his family. This is the first Disney project of any kind that I have seen the “house of mouse” directly address subjects around the LGBTQ+ community. My hope is that …

‘Ahsoka’ Series Confirmed; The Hunt for Ezra?

As we continue to try and address as much content from Disney Investor Day we move on to the (no-brainer) announcement for the live-action Ahsoka series heading to Disney+. With such positive fan reaction to Rosario Dawson’s recent portrayal on The Mandalorian it should come as no surprise that she shall indeed be reprising the role for the upcoming project. Yaaas! More white light sabers! Now, before this great, yet unsurprising, news Dave Filoni (creator of the beloved character) provided some curious words after the release of her special episode. He stated: “It’s an interesting one, that’s not necessarily chronological,” Filoni said. “I think the thing that people will most not understand is they want to go in a linear fashion, but as I learned as a kid, nothing in Star Wars really works in a linear fashion. You do [Episodes] Four, Five, and Six and then One, Two, and Three. So in the vein of that history, when you look at the epilogue of Rebels, you don’t really know how much time has passed. So, it’s possible that the story …

More ‘Rogue One’ Vader Violence on the Way?

Well Disney Investor Day has me recovering from nerd seizures. From Pixar to Star Wars to Marvel it feels like there was enough content dropped today to fill a year of announcements! It’s so much I obviously won’t be able to write on all of it, but we will absolutely try to get through all the highlights on this week’s Comic Couch! The first things I want to dive into are some of the new projects announced for the Star Wars (growing) universe. As they brought up the full screen of show logos (ten to be exact) I was drawn to the Andor series as well as the Obi-Wan series. Today we got official word that the Obi-Wan show will not just see the return of Ewan McGregor in the title role but will also have Hayden Christensen return as Darth Vader.… Hm… Set ten years after the events of Revenge of the Sith this seems to fit just fine chronologically with the actors; we’re fifteen years from when that film hit theaters. What I …
