‘Young Justice: Outsiders” New Release Schedule

The fan FAVORITE animated series is  set to return this Tuesday, July 2, over on DC Universe. If you liked the release format for the first half of the season- tough luck! The streaming service has decided to go with a different battle plan for the back thirteen. This Tuesday will copy the previous premiere with three episodes (14-16) but after that will switch to one episode per week. This is likely due to the lack of original content hitting the DC streaming service, the cancellation of Swamp Thing, and trying to find ways to keep fans coming back for a longer stretch of time. At the moment we know that there are still a hand full of new shows set to release this year (Stargirl, Harley, and Titans season 2) but will this project get the green light for season four? I hope so! There’s no doubt that the most anticipated series for the streaming service was Young Justice. How often do you hear of not just a series, but an animated one, getting …

‘Charlie’s Angels’ Trailer Discussion

Good morning, Charlie! The trailer for the upcoming Charlie’s Angels reboot starring Elizabeth Banks, Kristen Stewart, Naomi Scott, and Ella Balinska has officially dropped! Thoughts? Let’s begin. Pandering: The trailer opens with Kristen Stewart looking directly at the camera and saying, ” I think women can do anything.” UGHHH!!! As famously said by Sammie from the Jersey Shore, STAAAAHHPP. It’s Charlie’s Angels; it’s one of the most iconic female lead properties EVER, you’re using guns, you’re kicking ass, you’re using tech and explosives, you’re brilliant, you’re beautiful- you don’t have to SAY this. The trailer and the movie will speak for themselves! Three Bosley’s?: Elizabeth Banks appears to be the film’s Bosley yet IMDb also has Patrick Stewart and Djimon Hounsou listed in the role. So, is “Bosley” just a title as it was used for Bernie Mac (RIP) in Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle? I’m glad to SEE Stewart, but after he came on screen my immediate thought was- this guy would have been the PERFECT voice for Charlie! Alas, not the case. We’ll see what …

‘Before Night Falls’ Review

We are in the final week of Pride Month and I still have some important reviews to get through! Today I want to take a look at another book/film combo with Before Night Falls.  This particular story holds a very special place in my heart for so many reasons. Not only did the memoir release in the very early 90’s, but it touched on elements of the gay experience that we don’t see expressed even now! It highlights the toxic elements of machismo, cuts into the loneliness, and daringly plays with the reader to tempt them to the idea- maybe we are all the same. Machismo: An element to every and all Latin cultures. It is so present in this memoir/film that it feels as if it’s a character. The title role of Reinaldo Arenas is given to Javier Bardem and revolves around his life in Cuba and his experiences of growing up gay in the machismo culture. Within the context of the memoir, there are many moments that come off as not just angry but …

‘The Lion King’ Soundtrack Details Release; I Can’t Deal!

The official track list for the highly anticipated remake of The Lion King has released! No, no actual songs have released; we’ll just have to wait to see the film in theaters to get our first taste. However, I have been curious (especially after getting that Beyonce and Donald Glover tease from the latest trailer) to see what new tracks could pop up. The official list is as follows; “Circle of Life”/“Nants’ Ingonyama” – Performed by Lindiwe Mkhize; African vocals performed by Lebo M; written and composed by Elton John and Tim Rice; “Nants’ Ingonyama” written by Lebohang Morake and Hans Zimmer; produced by Hans Zimmer; vocals produced by Stephen Lipson  “Life’s Not Fair” – Hans Zimmer  “Rafiki’s Fireflies” – Hans Zimmer  “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” – Performed by JD McCrary, Shahadi Wright Joseph and John Oliver; written by Elton John and Tim Rice; produced by Pharrell Williams; co-produced by Stephen Lipson  “Elephant Graveyard” – Hans Zimmer  “Be Prepared” (2019 Version) – Performed by Chiwetel Ejiofor; written by Elton John and Tim …

‘Wizards Unite’ is Dull

Look everyone, I’m a potterhead. I am. I’ve read the books so many times I lost count. I enjoyed the films. I believe the first ten years of this century were brighter because of those books and movies. That being said, what the hell is happening to this franchise?! I’m getting so frustrated! Remember when Harry Potter was the top dog?! I understand that time moves on and things change, but this just hurts, ya’ll. I downloaded the game yesterday to see what we had and, to me, it’s just not interesting. Perhaps because it feels slightly like a plagiarized Pokemon Go?  Yes, I’m frustrated at the decline of the franchise, but what adds another layer of ire is that it feels like the elements to bring it back to glory is right in front of us all! If they want to step into the gaming sphere then they need to commit to something big or cut it out. With the soon to release playstation and Xbox, a Wizarding World game feels like the obvious …

The Blues and Pinks of HBO’s “Euphoria”

Well that was heavy! I just finished the pilot episode for HBO’s next (great?) television series, Euphoria. Staring Zendaya, in what might be her strongest role yet, the series focuses around her character, Rue, as she goes through drug addiction and the rollercoaster of adolescence. Is it the next Degrassi? Am I finally that old where I’m asking, “is this what kids are really up to these days?” I’m not sure! I would say the show has elements of Degrassi meets Thirteen Reasons Why meets Skins. Do I like the show? Yeah! It’s heavy as F***, but it’s good. Let’s look at some highlights. Rue:  Zendaya is a star. Period. Her actions as Rue would cause anyone to judge or maybe even hate her. Yet, she plays the character from such a fragile place that you don’t root against her at any point. At least not in this premiere episode…fingers crossed we don’t. Yes, the bike crashing montage was HILARIOUS. Her face after Jules’ moment in the kitchen was a tension breaker for sure. Zandaya brings …

‘Toy Story 4’ SPOILER Review

We just finished the latest (and I hope final) installment in the Toy Story franchise.  I don’t want to review this movie as the usual “good vs bad.” The movie is solid. I have only one tiny complaint and I’ll express that later. For now, I want to focus on the metaphor’s of the film. This movie brilliantly serves as a kids movie and at the very same time is a film entirely for adults. The cohesion between the two was mind-blowing. Buzz: In Toy Story 3 he felt very much like a supporting character and even though he got more screen time than the rest of the toys in this film, it still felt like that was his role here. Quite frankly I was a little upset that other toys didn’t have bigger roles considering this was the last film! Alas, I understand there is only so much time and there’s a story to tell. Anyway, though not to do with the love element (even though it can apply to some extent) Buzz’s plot …

Episode 30 – The Gaypisode

We’ve made it to episode 30! Welcome back to the couch and join us as we have our Pride episode! We start by reviewing the recent Elton John biopic ‘Rocketman’ @ 0:07:30, then we shift over to reviewing/discussing one of the recent episodes of the Netflix show ‘Black Mirror’ @ 0:31:50. In particular, the episode that we discuss is the ‘Striking Vipers’, which brings up many different topics regarding sexuality. We finish the episode discussing our thoughts of the new Taylor Swift music video @ 1:02:15, including much more!

Six Times Pixar Screwed Us UP

It was announced yesterday that Disney Pixar would not have just one but TWO films releasing in 2020. Unlike their recent streak of films, both projects will be complete originals. The first, Onward, will release in March of 2020 while the second, Soul, does not yet have a release date. What we DO have is the official logo for the film (seen above) as well as a description that reads: “Ever wonder where your passion, your dreams and your interests come from? What is it that makes you… YOU? In 2020, Pixar Animation Studios takes you on a journey from the streets of New York City to the cosmic realms to discover the answers to life’s most important questions.” …..What the F*** Pixar! For F***** sake! Is it just me or does every Pixar project feel more and more like a kids movie trojan-horse REALLY designed to expose you to the dark elements of mortality! Need some examples? Here we go. Up: On a flight to Venezuela I decided to play this little number because I heard the dream of …
