Come join us as we discuss all the incredible entertainment we were provided this past weekend.

“Avengers: Endgame” SPOILER Review

I  literally just left the theater and there is NO time to waste. This will likely be my longest written film review ever so, as I did before this three hour movie, I am stretching and am ready to go! This film very much takes places in tree pieces: The aftermath, the mission, and the endgame. For the sake of staying organized I will divide this by each act. THE AFTERMATH Uh, What?!: The Russo brothers aren’t F#$^##@ around with us! We had no idea going into this movie what it was going to be. Right off the bat, the Avengers assemble, they go find Thanos, and they kill his ass.  Oh, and the Infinity Stones? He destroyed them. DUST. Ummmm ok? What everyone does after? SULK AND LOSE THEMSELVES FOR FIVE F#$%&#% YEARS!!!! I was floored by the surprise. Yet, as soon as it was revealed and we see the shots of a world unable to cope with the loss, I was completely on board for the decision. If the story took off just some …

Art Spotlight – Ben F Jeffery

It’s always important to showcase those that have incredible talents because it’ll always help others feel inspired to create on their own. In our first ever 17 Waverly Podcast: Art Spotlight, we wanted to show our audience an artist that not only creates great work, but is also a big film and sci-fi fan. I stumbled upon this artist, Ben Jeffery, on instagram and immediately was in awe of all of his work. Using primarily acrylic and oil, he creates these stunning pieces with vivid colors and depth. As fans of many of the films and televisions shows he has created inspired pieces from, I’d love to showcase a few of our favorite ones below. Check out his website and instagram and make sure to support his work.

‘Detective Pikachu’ New Trailer and What it Means For the Future of Pokemon

Alright, if you say you never played or watched Pokemon back in the 90’s you are just straight up full of bologna! We were all fans. We all loved it. We all wanted to force those cute little monsters to burn, electrocute, whip, and beat the living hell out of each other so we could force them into a ball where they would live indefinitely until we needed them to commit the same violent acts against others. Too dark? Moving on… Detective Pikachu today dropped another short trailer with the sounds of “What A Wonderful World” (so fitting) while it showcased the wonders of the first live-action Pokemon film. Though I was doubtful of this movie, and still have some hesitations, there is no denying that there is promise. Alas, where there is promise there is a franchise. Should the Detective Succeed: The thing that I find most creative about this film is the trojan horse it can prove to be. It is setting up this specific story with a talking pikachu, there is a mystery …

Game of Thrones: Season 8 Episode 2 Review

It was a slow one ya’ll, but it was filled with some good stuff! Let’s waste no time and dive into GoT WATCH! (Brian Fantana saying “Panda Watch” voice from Anchorman). Arya, okay! Do You, Girl!: The end is near. Literally, the show is almost over and all these characters know that they have little chance of surviving the battle ahead. In true GoT beauty, there is no way to predict who is safe in this thing! Sure, we can assume Jon, Dany, and Tyrion are going to make it but we’ve been wrong before, folks! No one seems more clear about the reality of death than Arya Stark who has been eyeing Gendry covered in steam and manhood! I assumed they would share a kiss; a peck. They would confess they meant a lot to each other. However, we got full blown last night on Earth F#%$&#$. I couldn’t believe it! It stole the episode, people! I know, there are so many viewers thinking that we met Arya when she was literally a child. …

Why We Should Be Pumped For ‘The Boys’ On Amazon

Just a couple days ago Amazon dropped their trailer for their upcoming superhero series, The Boys. This, like so many before it, is an adaptation of a comics series which was created by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. Superhero fatigue? Well, though there are definitely supers in this, I wouldn’t call them heroes… The Boys was a comic book series that ran from 2006 to 2007 moving from Wildstorm over to Dynamite comics where it lived the remainder of its run (up to 72 issues). Focused on a group of superhero haters coined, The Boys, the story takes us on their crazy and violent mission to put supers in their place. You see, in this world, the creators wanted to take a more nihalistic and harsh realist approach to what a society with superheroes looks like. So why should we be excited for this? Let’s take a look. 1: Best said in Wedding Crashers; It’s Sexual and Violent: Look, we all love Game of Thrones, but that show didn’t pick-up initial viewers with hard hitting story telling… …

Episode 22 – Throne Wars

The time has come folks, we’ve been waiting 2 years for the premiere of HBO’s ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 8, the FINAL season. We are back on the couch watching ‘Wife Swap’ until we get into our hefty discussion about the first episode of the Game of Thrones latest season. *@ 04:45* We try our best to give you what our thoughts are on the episode as well as all of our theories for what will happen the rest of the show until the end. We then end this episode discussing the teaser trailer that Disney dropped for ‘Star Wars – Episode IX: The Last Skywalker’. *@ 1:04:40*

Why Todd Phillips’ ‘Joker’ Just Might Work

I have been the loudest voice against this movie. I have said time and time again that Warner/DC should be focusing it’s efforts on building up their heroes along with villains, set in a modern setting where crossovers can happen, and that creating a Joker movie without Batman would be against the very identity of the character. After seeing the trailer for the film last week I have to say-I may have to eat my words. The Joker himself has said it himself, he exists because of the Batman. He is completed because of the Batman. If there were no Batman it would be no fun to do the things he does. They are both products of madness. They are both products of a corrupt and fucked up world. Where one chose to do evil the other chose to defend good. They cancel each other out. Heath Ledger’s Joker said it at the end of the Nolan film- Batman will never kill the Joker because that’s a line he cannot cross and the Joker will …

Netflix’s ‘Cowboy Bebop’: Why the Excitement is Real

For those who may not know, the beloved 1998 anime series, Cowboy Bebop, has been chosen by Netflix to be adapted for a live-action version. Some who are not familiar with the show (or the anime genre as a whole) might be thinking, ‘what’s the big deal? It’s not like it’s Dragonball Z…’ (sip my scotch) Cute!  This might not be the most well recognized series by casual fans, but it is hands down one of the most iconic anime’s of all time! So, what makes it so great and why do we have to look forward to it? Well, “3, 2, 1, let’s jam.” 1: The Soundtrack of All Soundtracks: Right out of the gates one of the things that makes this series so special is its music. the opening sequence shows us flashes of images, black panels, our lead character lighting a cigarette, and the bongos begin. From this moment you know you’re in for something special. The soundtrack consists of original jazz pieces that breathe so much life into the series. I …
